Acceptance Review of TMI-1 Relief Requests RR-11-01 and RR-111-02, TAC Nos. ME5670/5671 By letter dated February 10, 2011 (A Agencywide Documents Access and Managemen nt System Accession No. ML110410126), Exelon Generation Company, LLC submitted Relief R Requests RR-11-01 and RR-11-02, regarding the third inservice inspection interval at Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1. RR-11-01 relates to the limited examination of certain steam gen nerator nozzle welds which have since been removed r from the plant due to the replacement of th he plants steam generators in 2009. RR-11-02 relates to four high pressure injection circumferential valve to safe-end welds for which the licensee e has determined that 100% examination coverage is impractical.

The purpose of this email is to provid de the results of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff's acceptance review of Relief R Requests RR-11-01 and RR-11-02. The a acceptance review was performed to determine if there is sufficient technical information in scope e and depth to allow the NRC staff to complete itts detailed technical review. The acceptance review is also intended to identify whether the application has any readily apparent information insu ufficiencies in its characterization of the regulato ory requirements or the licensing basis of the plan nt.

The NRC staff has reviewed your su ubmittal and concluded that Relief Requests RR-11-01 and RR-11-02 do provide technical inform mation in sufficient detail to enable the NRC stafff to continue with its detailed technical review and d make an independent assessment regarding th he acceptability of the proposed reques sts in terms of regulatory requirements and the prrotection of public health and safety and the env vironment. Given the lesser scope and depth of tthe acceptance review as compared to the t detailed technical review, there may be instan nces in which issues that impact the NRC sttaffs ability to complete the detailed technical revview are identified despite completion of an adequate a acceptance review. If additional informa ation is needed, you will be advised by sepa arate correspondence.
