Dear Chairman Diaz:
We write to you today to regarding Entergy Corp.'s request for ajoint application for re-licensure of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station of Plymouth, Massachusetts and Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant of Brattleboro, Vermont.
We ask that you deny Entergy Corp.'s request for joint re-licensure and move forward with separate re-licensure processes given the significant differences of the two plants.
While vwe understand that there are significant costs associated with this separation, both for the applicant and the federal agencies involved in this matter, we feel strongly that Pilgrim and Yankee are too dissimilar to be combined under one regulatory review process. Separate applications for re-licensure would provide the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission with an opportunity to focus more accurately on the specific characteristics of each plant as they pertain and relate to the host community.
Pilgrim and Yankee deserve to be evaluated separately as they seek to be re-licensed by the U.S.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission. These matters are far too important to the conumnunities we represent to be lumped into one review process.
