Entergy letter to USNRC, Notification of Permanent Cessation of Power Operations, JAFP-1 5-01 33, dated November 18, 2015 (ML15322A273)
Dear Sir or Madam:
Entergy submitted Relief Request 19 (RR-19) [Reference 1] in the Fourth Ten-Year Inservice Inspection Interval pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(z)(1). The request was made to implement an alternative to specific portions of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Code,Section XI, on the basis that the proposed alternative provides an acceptable level of quality and safety. JAF requested an alternative to ASME Section XI, 2001 Edition through the 2003 Addenda, Table IWB-2500-1, Examination Category B-A, Item No. Bi.11, which requires volumetric examination of the reactor vessel circumferential shell welds each inservice inspection interval.
In Reference 2, Entergy provided formal notification of the intention to permanently cease power operations at the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant at the end of the current operating cycle. As a result of the decision to cease power operations at JAF, there is no longer a need for the alternative requested in Reference 1. JAF is withdrawing RR-1 9.
This letter contains no new regulatory commitments. Should you have any questions, please contact Mr. William Drews at (315) 349-6562.
