Spent Fuel Storage Modification An unofficial transmittal letter vas sent to the Director of Nuclear Regulation US-NRC, Washington, D.C. on April 20, 1978, with an appli-cation for amendment of the licensee's Operating License No. DPR-45 requesting.an increase in the storage capacity of the irradiated fuel storage-pool by the initial removal of existing storage racks and the subsequent addition of high density storage racks for irradiated fuel and shrouds.
February 4,1980, Mr. D. Ziemann, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No.
2, Division of Operating Reactors issued Amendment No. 18 to Provi-sional Operating License No. DPR-45 allowing increase in the capa-city of the spent fuel storage pool from 134 to 440 fuel assemblies.
Metal Products Corp. (MPC) fabricated the high density spent fuel racks in accordance with Nuclear Energy Service, Inc. (NES) Divi-
- lion Specification No. 80A1770 " Specification for the Fabrication und Inspection of the La Crosse Boiling Water Reactor High Density Fuel-Storage Racks", and-appears to satisfy P.O. No. A67459, dated November. 21, 1978.
The Carborundum Company packaged, handled and shipped the Boron Carbide. Composite sheet material.
The inspector determined that applicable welding procedures and material were used and the appearance of the weld surface was acceptable. The following Metal Products documents were reviewed:
