NRC REGION I COMBINED INSPECTION 50-387/95-02; 50-388/95-02
Dear Mr. Byram:
The enclosed report documents a resident safety inspection conducted by Ms. H.
Banerjee, Mr. D. J. Mannai, and others from January 1,
1995 through February 13, 1995, at the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES),
Salem Township, Pennsylvania.
Areas relevant to the health and safety of the public examined during the inspection are described in the enclosed report.
At the conclusion of the inspection, Ms M. Banerjee, Senior Resident Inspector, summarized the inspection findings with Hr.
G. J. Kuczynski and other members of your staff.
Identification and resolution-of the engineering deficiency report related to the high pressure core injection system reflected a good questioning attitude and capability, and is considered a strength of the engineering organization.
Your identification of a need for and enhancement of guidance on operability determination is expected to improve the timeliness of the process.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice,"
a copy of this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
