Three of the four welds were reradiographed and found to be acceptable by CPCo and the inspector (welds #A and B piece 1-GCB-18-S612-4-1 and weld #A, piece 1-GCB-18-S612-4-2). Weld #C, (the ,
fourth weld) piece 1-GCB-18-S612-4-1 was cut out and replace (Closed) Unresolved item (329/82-04-01; 330/82-04-01): Undersized socket welds identified as a result of an allegation. The actions taken by Bechtel as a result of the problem included a complete reinspection of all of the welds visually examined (VT) by a previous QC inspector who had been identi-fled by Bechtel and a reinspection of a sample of the welds accepted by other inspectors. Several of the socket welds previously VT by the forme r QC inspector were found to be undersized and were identified on Bechtel NCR 4084. All of the welds inspected by the other inspectors were found to be acceptable. The RIII inspector also VT the following socket welds ,

indications in welds in two borated water storage tanks." The tanks have been drained and may be radiographed in the near futur Functional or Program Areas Inspected General CPCo received four allegations concerning B&W NDE work from an individual previously employed at the Midland Site (File 16.0, Serial 98FWA80, dated April 11, 1980). Three of the allegations were closed (Reference NRC Report No. 50-329/80-27; 50-330/80-28 and No. 50-329/81-06; 50-330/81-06). The fourth allegation has not been resolved to dat CPCo management in Jackson, Michigan is reviewing the allegation and has hired Teledyne Engineering Services to analyze the as-welded conditions for acceptabilit This may be resolved in the near future.
