NRC INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-295/98005(DRP); 50-304/98005(DRP)

Dear Mr. Kingsley:
- On April 24,1998, the NRC completed an inspection at your Zion 1 and 2 reactor facilities. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.
Performance during this inspection period was adequate. However, your staff responded to y
several events involving configuration control deficiencies. These events included inadvertent draining of a holdup tank to the spent fuel pool, inadvertent draining of a reactor water storage l
tank to a holdup tank, and a failure to maintain the applicable number of service water pumps l

operable during surveillance testing. Problems in configuration control was an existing performance issue at Zion Station before the permanent shutdown. These recent examples indicate the need to continue management focus on pertinent problem areas for the permanently shutdown facility.
