Letter GNRO-2005/00038, "License Amendment Request: Use of Relief Valves to Isolate Penetration Flow Paths ," from George A.

Williams of Entergy to USNRC dated June 27, 2005 (ADAMS Accession No. ML052070689)

Dear Sir or Madam:

On June 27, 2005, Entergy Operations, Inc. (Entergy) submitted the above referenced letter which requested a license amendment to the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS)

Technical Specifications (TS). That License Amendment Request (LAR) is being reviewed by the NRC staff under TAC No. MC7970. Entergy is hereby withdrawing the referenced LAR.

The proposed amendment would have modified TS 3.6.1.3 to allow relief valves with a relief setpoint of at least 1.5 times the containment design pressure to be used to isolate penetration flow paths affected by an inoperable primary containment isolation valve.

During telephone conference calls regarding the proposed change, the NRC staff commented on the broad scope of the request and suggested that Entergy reconsider the scope or provide more specific details regarding the types of configurations for which the change would be applied. In consideration of the staff's comments, Entergy is withdrawing the request but plans to submit a similar request at a later date.
