This notification is being provided in accordance with 10CFR50.72(b)(2)(i), Plant Shutdown required by Technical Specifications, and 10 CFR 50.72(b)(3)(ii)A, Degraded or
Unanalyzed Condition.
At 0300 CDT on 3/22/18, on LaSalle Unit 1, a through-wall (welded joint) leak was identified on a 3/4 inch vent line off of the bonnet of the 1B33-F067B, 1B Reactor Recirculation Pump Discharge Valve. This condition qualifies as pressure boundary leakage, which requires entry into Technical Specification 3.4.5, Reactor Coolant System Operational Leakage, Required Action C, to be in Mode 3, Hot Shutdown, by 1500 on 3/22/18 and Mode 4, Cold Shutdown, by 1500 on 3/23/18. This leakage is significantly less than 10 gallons per minute and therefore, does not meet the threshold for entry into the Emergency Action Plan. At the time of discovery, Unit 1 was in Mode 1 - Run.
Shutdown began at 0500 CDT and the estimated completion to cold shutdown is 2000 CDT. All necessary shutdown equipment is available.
There is no impact to Unit 2.
