SUBJECT:

Request for Alternative GG-ISI-002 Response to Request for Additional Information Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Docket No. 50-416 License No. NPF-29

REFERENCE:

Entergy Operations, Inc. letter CNRO-2006-00043 to the NRC, dated September 22, 2006

Dear Sir or Madam:

In the referenced letter, Entergy Operations, Inc. (Entergy) submitted Request for Alternative GG-ISI-002, which requests approval to implement a risk-informed inservice inspection (ISI) program at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS). The program is to be based on ASME Code Case N-716, Alternative Piping Classificationand Examination Requirements, Section X1 Division 1.

In a telephone call held on August 20, 2007 to discuss GG-ISI-002, the NRC staff asked Entergy to specify which method or technique was use to estimate piping failure frequency in the GGNS flooding analysis, which supports the request. For the GGNS flooding analysis, Entergy calculated the initiating event frequency based on the number of feet of pipe in the flood area and pipe failure rate taken from INEL Report EGG-SSRE-8875 (Feb. 1990).

Should you have any further questions regarding GG-ISI-002, please contact Guy Davant at (601) 368-5756.

This letter contains no new commitments.
