NRC Regulatory Issue Summary 2009-06, Importance of Giving NRC Advance Notice of Intent to Pursue License Renewal, dated June 15, 2009 (ML090540789)

In the referenced communication (Regulatory Issue Summary 2009-06), the NRC described the importance of providing advance notice of the intent to pursue license renewal. The purpose of this letter is to provide notification that Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) intends to submit a Subsequent License Renewal Application (SLRA) for the Renewed Facility Operating Licenses for Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant (BFN), Units 1, 2, and 3.

The first Renewed Facility Operating Licenses for BFN Units 1, 2, and 3 were issued on May 4, 2006, and will expire at midnight on December 20, 2033, June 28, 2034, and July 2, 2036, respectively. TVA intends to submit a SLRA for the Renewed Facility Operating Licenses for BFN Units 1, 2, and 3 in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 54, Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants, by the end of 2023.

As requested in Regulatory Issue Summary 2009-06, TVA will inform the NRC of any changes to the anticipated schedule for filing the SLRA for BFN to facilitate NRC efforts to plan for processing of license renewal applications.
