Cook Nuclear Plant Units 1 & 2 SUBMITTAL OF TURBINE ROOM SUMP pH LOWER LIMIT EXCEEDANCE In a letter dated May 2, 2012, Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M), the licensee for Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant (CNP) Units 1 and 2, submitted a notification of Turbine Room Sump (Outfall 0OD) pH lower limit of 6.5 exceedance for Groundwater Permit GW 1810102 to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. On April 29, 2012, between 1756 hours0.0203 days <br />0.488 hours <br />0.0029 weeks <br />6.68158e-4 months <br /> and 1908 hours0.0221 days <br />0.53 hours <br />0.00315 weeks <br />7.25994e-4 months <br />, the Turbine Room Sump pH lower limit of 6.5 was exceeded. During this period of discharge, approximately 49,000 gallons of pH 6.13-6.52 water was discharged to the onsite absorption pond. Absorption pond pH value was 7.98, indicating the discharge had little effect on the ponds overall pH.

A copy of the notification is enclosed in accordance with CNPs Environmental Technical Specification, Part II- Nonradiological Environmental Protection Plan, Section 5.4.2.

This notification is made pursuant to Indiana Michigan Power Company, the licensee for Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant (CNP) Units I and 2, Ground Water Permit GW1 810102 Part I, Section 11 b, Compliance Requirements.

On April 29, 2012, between 1756 hours0.0203 days <br />0.488 hours <br />0.0029 weeks <br />6.68158e-4 months <br />, and 1908 hours0.0221 days <br />0.53 hours <br />0.00315 weeks <br />7.25994e-4 months <br />, the Turbine Room Sump (Outfall OOD) pH lower limit of 6.5 was exceeded. During this period of discharge, approximately 49,000 gallons of pH 6.13-6.52 water was discharged to the onsite absorption pond. A sample of the absorption pond was obtained and analyzed April 30, 2012, at 0930 hours0.0108 days <br />0.258 hours <br />0.00154 weeks <br />3.53865e-4 months <br />. Absorption pond pH value was 7.98, indicating the discharge had

-little effect on the pond's overall pH. On Monday, April 30, 2012, I&M staff contacted your office and provided verbal notification of this exceedance.
