Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC Names New Resident Inspector at Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Plant The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Russell Cassara II as the new resident inspector at the Davis-Besse nuclear power plant. The plant is located in Oak Harbor, Ohio, and is operated by Energy Harbor Nuclear Corp.

Russells knowledge, training and his diverse work experience make him well suited for the job of resident inspector. These skills combined with his educational background will help ensure the high standards set by the agency for commercial nuclear power plants are maintained, said NRC Region III Administrator Jack Giessner.

Cassara joined the agency in 2020 in the Region III office as a reactor engineer. Prior to joining the agency, he served six years in the U.S. Navys nuclear propulsion power program aboard the USS Louisville, a fast attack submarine. He also spent five years in the private sector working in various industrial environments.

He holds a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and a masters degree in systems engineering and design both from the University of Michigan.

Each commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections and monitoring significant work projects.

Cassara joins NRC senior resident inspector Daniel Mills at the Davis-Besse facility.
