Attachment to NG-20-0042 Page 1 of 1 Response to Request for Additional Information By letter dated May 1, 2020 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML20122A130, non-public withheld under 10 CFR 2.390), NextEra Energy Duane Arnold, LLC (NEDA) requested temporary exemptions for security training requirements due to COVID-19 pandemic at Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC).

In order to complete the review of the exemptions, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requested additional information. The requested information is provided below in bold typeface, followed by the DAEC response.

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Pursuant to Section 73.5, "Specific exemptions," of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR), the Commission may, upon application by any interested person or upon its own initiative, grant exemptions from the requirements of 10 CFR Part 73 when the exemptions are authorized by law, will not endanger life or property or the common defense and security, and are otherwise in the public interest.

Pursuant to 10 CFR 73.5, the licensee requested temporary exemptions from certain identified security training requalification requirements in 10 CFR Part 73, Appendix B, Section VI, "Nuclear Power Reactor Training and Qualification Plan for Personnel Performing Security Program Duties." The licensee also stated it will require an exemption to associated items in the DAEC training and qualification plan. However, the DAEC training and qualification plan for security personnel is not contained within 10 CFR Part 73 and any change to the plan must be submitted to the NRC for review and approval in writing.

Confirm that DAEC is only requesting an exemption from the requirements in 10 CFR Part 73.

Response

DAEC confirms that only exemptions from the requirements in 10 CFR Part 73 are being requested.
