| Event Description | The following information was provided by the licensee via facsimile (licensee text in quotes):
The non-emergency 8-hour report is pursuant to 10CFR50.72(b)(3). On 03/03/05 at 1825 [EST], the Unit Reactor Operator identified the High Pressure Coolant Injection (HPCI) Flow Controller had no indication, indicating it was deenergized. With the flow controller de-energized, the HPCI system is unable to perform its design function of providing core cooling upon receipt of an initiation signal. Reactor operation is unaffected and Unit 3 remains at 100% power. The inoperability of the HPCI system places the plant in a 14 day shutdown Tech Spec action statement. Initial investigation has discovered the output of the inverter which supplies power to the flow controller (and other HPCI instrumentation) is lower than expected. Further investigation is in progress. The licensee notified the NRC Resident Inspector. |
