This is contrary t:-_: Technical Specific.:,tions 1:.* 1.A_ and is reportable as per Technical Specific.::itions 6.6.7...b.3.

The nuclear Pm1e.: Range instrumentation is c-1libr.2ted on a cl--1ily basis <1ga:i.nst a heat bQl<ince* standard.

The upp~r and.lo\\.Ycr ion chrnnbE~r current~ are recalibrated quarterly to assur2 valid function of those protective fe~tures using F ( 6. I) as an input value.

This calibration is checked on a monthly basis and ~-7,2,, within 1% on the map taken 10-17--73.

Therefore, the h,:;llth and safety of the~ general public were not affectcJ.

Cause

This event was caused by failure to adequately schedule the PT that tracks the core exposure.

4.

Imc:1,~diate Corrective Action:

As required by Technical Specifications 3.18.B, the unit's pc~*.'e1*

was reduced and limited to 90% power.

The data required for the excore detector recalibration was taken.

Initial annlysis of the data indicated that the existing Incore/

E:*:core detector calibration was within l'.t, which is well within the required Rpecifications.

The unit was returned to full pow~r.

Detailed anal.ysis of the maps provided the data for comrletion of the recalibrn-tion procedures.

Actions Taken to Prevent Recurrence:

Personnel have been reinstructcd and schedule modified to provide for closer tracking ~of core exposure on a weekly rather than rnonthly basis.
