U.S. Department of Homeland Security Washington, DC 20472

October 17, 2024

Kathryn Brock, Director Division of Preparedness and Response Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555

Dear Ms. Brock:

This letter is to inform you that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has completed its Disaster Initiated Review (DIR) for the State of Georgia risk and host counties offsite response organizations compensatory measures to respond to an incident at the Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant (Plant Hatch) in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

On October 6, 2024, based on the PCA performed, a subsequent DIR, and our review of available information gathered in discussions with the OROs, FEMA has concluded that offsite radiological emergency preparedness (EP) remains adequate to provide Reasonable Assurance and that appropriate measures can be taken to protect the health and safety of the public in a radiological emergency at Plant Hatch. At this time, this completes the PCA and DIR activity related to Hurricane Helene.

Please contact me at (202) 646-3567, if you have any questions or require any further assistance on this matter.

Sincerely,

Bruce Foreman Director, Technological Hazards Division
