OF RESULTS: i PURPOSE j l Th2 purpose of this calculation is to provide pressure-temperature (P/T) limit analysis results for Three Mile island (TMI) Unit

1. The analysis is performed for two sets of RTwer values and is based on the input transients as supplied by GPU Nuclear, Inc. (GPUN). For each set of RTwor values the pressuro-temperature limits are determined for two cases of normal heatup ,

I and two cases of normal cooldown in accordance with the requirements of ASME Code Sectiop XI, Appendix G.1989 Edition (no Addenda). Revision 1 provides the in-service leak and hydrotest limits (ISLH).

SUMMARY

OF RESULTS For the first set of RTsor values, the P/T limits for normal heatup and normal cooldown are given in Tables 2 and 3.

r;spectively. Similarly, for the second set of RTwor values, the P/T limits for normal heatup and normal cooldown are given in Tabbs 4 and 5, respectively. These P/T limits already include corrections for location adjustments and instrument error. The ISLH limits for the first and second set of RTuor values are provided in Appendices E and F, respectively.

Three Mile Island (TMI) Unit 1. The analysis is performed for two sets of RTuo1 values and the input transients as supplied by GPU Nuclear: Inc. (GPUN). For each set of RTuor values, the

, pressure-temperature limits are determined for two cases of normal heatup, two cases of normal cooldown and for in-service leak and hydrostatic test (ISLH) in accordance with the requirements l of ASME Code Section XI, Appendix G of Reference [1]. The analysis of the Pff limits will be i

based on BAW-10046A approved methodology contained in Reference [2]. l 1

2. ANALYSIS INPUTS l

The RT, values (two sets), temperature-time histories, location adjustments, and instrument-errors, used in the analysis, were provided by GPUN. This input information is given in Appendix B and summarized below.

1. The first set of RT, values are 214 F (at the 1/4t RV beltline location) and 160 F (at the 3/4t beltline location). The second set of RTer values are 240 F and 180 F at the 1/4t and 3/4t locations, respectiv'e ly.
2. .Two heatup (one ramp and one step transient) temperature-time histories and two cooldown (one ramp and one step transient) temperature-time histories were used in the analysis. The temperature-time histories are summarized in Table 1.

3. The following location adjustments were used in the analysis. At corrected temperatures 2 195 F, a value of -110 psig was used in the analysis. At corrected temperature less than 195 F, a value of-46 psig was used in the analysis.
4. The following corrections for instrument error were used in the analysis. A value of +12 F was used for temperature correction and a value of-25 psig was used for pressure' sensor conection.

All other inputs such as the RV geometry, beltline and nozzle flaw geometry, upper shelf fracture toughness, convection heat transfer film coefficient values, and closure head limits, used in the analysis, were obtained from Reference [3].

l Framatome Technologies 32-5001065-01 1 3. ANALYSIS The pressure-temperature limits for TMI-l (for the two sets of RTsor values) were determined j using FTI computer code PTPC 3.3 (Reference 4). The pressure-temperature limits were deter nined using the analysis inputs of Section 2.0. The methods and criteria employed to l establish operating pressure and temperature limits are described in topical report BAW-10046A (Reference 2). The pressure-temperature limits contained in the computer runs are uncorrected limits, i.e., they do not contain location adjustments or instrument errors. The pressure-temperature limits for the first and second set of RTwor values are subsequently location adjusted and instrument error corrected as given in the detailed tabulations in Appendices C and D, respectively. The pressure-temperature limits for the ISLH limits are provided in Appendices E and F for the first and second set of RTuor values, respectively. The ISLH limits are derived based on evaluatipn of-limiting normal operation heatup and cooldown transients using a safety factor of 1.5 (ArticTh G-L 2400 of Reference 1).

The method of analysis consists of determining the P/T limits for the beltline region, the nozzle region and'the closure head region of the reactor vessel (RV). The P/r limits for the beltline and the nozzle region are obtained from PTPC output files (given in Section 6). The closure head limits are as provided in Reference [3]. >

l. For a'given transient, the maximum allowable pressure as a function of fluid temperature was .

obtained through a point-by-point comparison of the results at the 1/4 t and 3/4 t locations of the limiting beltline weld, the nozzle region and the closure head region. The maximum allowable l pressure was taken to be the lowest of the calculated allowable pressures,for a given time point.

The resulting loci of these points determitie the Pff limits.

The computer program output files are provided in Section 6 on computer output microfiche

-(COM). As indicated in Section 3, the computer runs contain uncorrected P/r limits. The P/r i

' limits are provided for normal operation heatup .and normal operation cooldown. The detailed- '

tabulations of the normal operation heatup and cooldown P/r limits for the first and second set of a RTer values are provided in Appendices C and D. The detailed tabulations contain the uncorrected P/r limits, the location adjusted P/T limits and finally, the location adjusted and J

instrument error corrected P/r limits for each of the heatup and cooldown cases. Similarly, the

. tabulations of the ISLH limits are provided in Appendices E and F for the first and second set of RTor values, respectively.

/ 3. He following location adjustments are to be used in the analysis. At corrected temr ..a e >_ 195 F, a value of -110 psig is to be used in the analysis. At conected temperature less than 195 F. a value of 46 psig should be used in the analysis.

4. The following cornetions for instrument error are to be used in the analysis. A value of
