It Sts been some time sinca we encinunicated with you about an early dfaft analysis of Hanford occupational :nortality experience which you coauthermi ulth Dr. Stewart and i'r. Xneale.

I realize that this must be a very busy time for you in light of the f 2rthcoming congressional hearings and other events ralated to the analysis.

%e, on the staff of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (MRC), contiruo to be deeply interested in epidemiology studies on the effects of icw level -

ionizing radiation. Currently the results of both the "13th Final Report on the Health and Nortality Study" and the study of Cr. Imin D. J. Gross, Jr.

are of the utmost concern to us.

He arn aware of many rnviews of the llanforrf data, but 7.ost of them have hen perfonn.id by the Department of Ennrny (COE) contractors. Because HRC

' has, as a part of Its activities, regulatnry responsibilities to protect the health of the oublic front the offects of ionizing radhtion, we are censidering 1 an Independent analysis of the llanford nortality data.

3ecause you, Dr. Stevart, and Mr. Kneale have rest of the insfDht into the data and its procassing, and ss I understand that Dr. Stewart and Pr. Xneale are in the United States, it seems to tes to be a good time for us to meet with all of you to discuss the analysis and the current availability of the data. -

In addltion, we will need a enoy of the llanford data tape and assistance in

.Its f aiterpretation, 'fa.would it'(e tn have the dat.1 whic5 wers used by you, tr. Stewart, and Mr. Kncale. HoweyW, if for some reison these data wre unavati.ible, we could obtain a tape frem alther Datta11e sorthwest Laboratories or from Oak Ridge National Labornortes. .

!!a t,ouli! Il'en to eviet uith you at rur e3r11est convenIance. Please let :m kna,'.nen this would bo. '
