ANO SDP RESULTS Finding: In lieu of ensuring one train of SSD equipment and cables free of fire damage by one of the three means specified in Section III.G.2 of Appendix R, the licensee credits numerous manual actions for restoring SSD functions that could be affected by a fire in Fire Zones 98J and 99M of ANO, Unit This is a violdion of 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix R, Section II .G Phase 3 A number of important safe shutdown components could be affected, such as, main feedwater, high pressure injection, emergency AC power, emergency feedwater The uncertainty regarding the timing and synergistic impact that fire-induced failures may have on the operators ability to restore shutdown functions with no procedure.

The significance can be attributed to a failure of emergency feedwater and feed and bleed capability, assuming no credit for operator recovery actions; The speed at which the fire progresses to a critical temperature decreases the licensee's ability to manually suppress the fire (fire brigade).

Differences between ANO and NRC:

Basically the differences can be attributed to: (1)the method for determining fire duration and severity; (2) heat release rates; (3) the fire Ignition frequency; and (4) credit for operator recovery of critical shutdown functions.
