Davis-Besse Synchronized to Grid Discussion:

This information is current as of 9:00 a.m. (EST) on March 29, 2004. The plant is currently in Mode 1 at about 45 percent power. The plant entered Mode 1 on Friday, March 26, at 4:49 p.m., and synchronized to the grid on Saturday, March 27, at 5:50 a.m. with the reactor at approximately 20 percent power. Adjustments to the power range nuclear instruments (NIs) to compensate for axial offset and to correlate with calorimetric indication is in progress. The plant has been at 45 percent power since the evening of Saturday, March 27.

Minor equipment problems with the reactor control system, a nonsafety-related steam system valve, main transformer cooling system fans, the condensate polishing system, and turbine bypass valve position indication have caused delays in the licensee's scheduled power ascension activities. Several of these issues have been resolved and the licensee is working to resolve the other equipment problems. Based on inspector observations, the licensee continues to exhibit good control over plant evolutions and take appropriate actions to address emergent issues.

Around-the-clock oversight, with NRC resident inspector and examiner support from Region III and other Regional Offices, will continue during operational evolutions until full power routine operations are achieved.
