HELLER TELEPHONE: 609-339-5162 The following items were evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Code of Federal Regulations 10CFR50.59. The Station Operations Review Committee has reviewed and concurs with these evaluations.

1. Temporary Modifications (TMOD)96-013 "Temporary Power for Wide Range Steam Generator Level Indication" Rev. 0 - This TMOD provides a temporary source of power for the wide range level indication for the Unit 2 steam generators. This power is needed only while the Unit 2 "C" Vital Bus is out of service. This will provide the control rooin the ability to monitor Steam Generator Level. The temporary modification will be installed, used, and removed while the plant is defueled and in Mode "undefined." The proposed temporary modifications were verified to be within the acceptable bound of the previous acceptance criteria and it will not reduce any safety margins as defined in the technical Specifications. (SORC 96-043)96-010 "Switchgear and Penetration Area Ventilation System" Rev.

0 - This TMOD enables the Switchgear Penetration Area (SP A) environment to remain with design temperature limits during the implementation phase ofDCP 2EC-3298, by cooling the outside air before it is introduced into various areas. This TMOD consists of a self contained, temporary, trailer mounted, air cooled chiller skid and cooling coils.

Although the SPA ventilation system is not directly addressed in the Technical Specifications, it does support operability of essential equipment, required by Technical specification 3/4.8, by maintaining the environmental conditions in served areas within specified limits. There is no reduction in the margin safety as defined in the basis for any Technical Specification. (SORC 96-052)

SUMMARY

- UNIT 2 APRIL 1996 SALEM UNIT NO. 2 The Unit remained shutdown for the entire period. According to commitments from PSE&G and a subsequent confirmatory action letter from the NRC, the Unit will remain shutdown pending completion of the following actions:

• Appropriately address long standing equipment reliability and operability issues

• After the work is completed, conduct a restart readiness review to determine for ourselves the ability of each Unit to operate in a safe, event free manner

• After the restart review, meet with the NRC and communicate the results of that review
