'W MOTION TO DEFER SPECIAL PREHEARING CONFERENCE On July 10, 1979, the Licensing Board issued an order scheduling the Special Prehearing conference in the captioned proceeding for August 15-16, 1979. The Licensing Board later denied a motion by the NRC staff for at least one month. In spite of that, the Iowa Public Interest Research Group, Inc., et al., respectfully move the Board to defer that conference at least until early September.

The date of the Licensing Board's original order left Iowa PIRG with less than three weeks, effectively, to supplement its contentions before the conference. Iowa PIRG is evoting a significant amount of staff time to this proceeding, although the size of that staff, and its range of expertise, are necessarily limited. In recent weeks, Iowa PIRG has begun to make significant discoveries of vital infonnation on some of its contentions, and feels that the delay, either sought by or acceptable to virtually all parties, including the Applicant, would advantageously allow Iowa PIRG to refine those contentions, resulting in a more meaningful conference at a later date. This would seem to facilitate the purpose of early site review.

Respectfully submitted,
