Whereas, Jim Dubert, Rural Route 2 Maquoketa, Iowa and Micheal Wilcox, 314i First Avenue, Clinton, Iowa are members of the Iowa Soc $alist Party and live and work within a 40 mile radius of the the proposed site; Whereas, the Iowa Socialist Party challenges the enviro = ental and safety aspects of the proposed siting, in specific:

a. Land Use--the plant would have a negative land use effort on the area
b. Economy-the economy of the area would be negatively affected in eveat of an accident, i.e. loss in property values and productive capacity of the i nra
c. Comunity Characteristica-the siting of the plant would increase the likelihood of disease in the area
d. Terrestrial and Aquatic Ecciogy-livestock, crops, and other vegetation in the area would be negatively inpacted, i.e. loss of productive capacity and drereased risk of contamination; Whereas, the Iowa Socialist ? arty challenges the need for power in the area and thus the need for increased capacity for generation; And Whereas, the Iowa Socialist Pary challenges the need for siting approval at this time when the future of comercial nue16ar power is being debated in the political arena, i.e. the proposed moratorium on siting of new plants; The Iowa Socialist Party asks leave to intervens in the hearing.
