SUBJECT:

TEXAS ENGINEERING EXPERIMENT STATION/TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY SYSTEM, NUCLEAR SCIENCE CENTER RE: REVIEW OF THE EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PLAN FOR LICENSE RENEWAL (TAC NO. ME1584)

Dear Dr. Skoda:

As part of your application for renewal of Facility Operating License No. R-83, dated February 27, 2003 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML102920025), as supplemented, for the Texas Engineering Experiment Station/Texas A&M University System (TEES/TAMUS), Nuclear Science Center (NSC), TRIGA-type research reactor, the NRC staff reviewed the NSC Emergency Preparedness Plan, Second Revision, dated December 1999. Our review resulted in a request for additional information (RAI) letter, dated January 7, 2014 (ADAMS Accession No. ML13340A738), and RAI responses provided by your letter dated February 11, 2014.

We have completed our review of the TEES/TAMUS NSC Emergency Preparedness Plan, Second Revision, dated December 1999, and concluded that it remains compliant with the regulations and guidance below:

  • Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 50, Section 50.34, paragraph 50.34(b)(6)(v)
  • NRC Information Notice 97-34, Deficiencies in Licensee Submittals Regarding Terminology for Radiological Emergency Action Levels in Accordance with the New Part 20, dated June 12, 1997

R. Skoda We request that you continue to implement your approved Emergency Preparedness Plan. If you have any questions regarding this review, please contact me by telephone at 301-415-0893 or by electronic mail at Geoffrey.Wertz@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,
