No.92-94FORIMMEDIATERELEASETel.301/504-2240(Friday,June19,1992)NRCSEEKSNOMINATIONSFORADVISORYCOMMITTEEONTHEMEDICALUSESOFISOTOPESTheNuclearRegulatoryCommissionisinvitingnominationsofqualifiedindividualstoservetwo-yeartermsasmembersofthe Commission'sAdvisoryCommitteeontheMedicalUsesofIsotopes.ThecommitteeadvisestheNRConpolicyandtechnicalissuesthatariseinregulatingthemedicaluseofradioactivebyproduct materialfordiagnosisandtherapy.Italsoprovidesguidanceand commentsonchangesinNRCregulationsandguidesonmedicaluses; evaluatescertainnon-routineusesofradioactivebyproduct materialformedicaluses;andprovidestechnicalassistancein specificlicensing,inspectionandenforcementcases.Thepresentmembersofthecommitteearephysicianspecialistsintherapeuticradiologyandnuclearmedicine(withbackgroundsin radiology,internalmedicineandnuclearcardiology);anuclear medicinetechnologist;aradiopharmacist;specialistsinmedical physics;apatient'srightsandcareadvocate;anindividualwith experienceinmedicalregulationasconductedbyindividualstates; andarepresentativefromtheFoodandDrugAdministration.TheCommissionisseekingadditionalmembersqualifiedinthefollowingareas:medicalresearch,withexpertiseinthemedical useofmonoclonalantibodies;hospitaladministrationor management;radiationoncologywithexperienceinteletherapy,brachytherapyand/orstereotacticradiotherapy;radiopharmacy; nuclearcardiology;andmedicalphysics.NomineesmustbeU.S.citizensandbeabletodevoteapproximately80hoursperyeartocommitteebusiness.Membersare compensatedandreimbursedfortravel(includingperdieminlieu ofsubsistence),secretarialandcorrespondenceexpenses.Nominations(includingaresumedescribingeducationalandprofessionalqualificationsandacurrentaddressandtelephone number)shouldbesenttotheSecretaryoftheCommission,Nuclear RegulatoryCommission,Washington,D.C.20555,Attention:Advisory CommitteeManagementOfficer.
