Subject:

Updated Fermi 1 Groundwater Monitoring Data Detroit Edison submitted groundwater monitoring data in Attachment 1 to Reference 2, as part of the Fermi 1 Groundwater Site Conceptual Model. This letter provides additional data obtained since the Reference 2 submittal.

Five new wells were installed in the spring of 2011, and only partial data was available from these new wells at the time of the submittal, June 29, 2011. This letter includes additional onsite analytical results for the new wells and results from an offsite laboratory.

This letter also updates the analytical result table to include results of recent samples from the other Fermi 1 wells and sumps.Detroit Edison plans to incorporate monitoring of wells at Fermi 1 into the existing Fermi 2 site groundwater monitoring program when Fermi 1 is returned to the passive monitoring SAFSTOR status discussed in Reference

3. The frequency will be determined and adjusted, as appropriate, based on the site groundwater monitoring program; however, it will not exceed two years.

USNRC NRC- 12-0012 Page 2 Reference 2, Attachment 1 included an updated Site Conceptual Model, which was developed by Conestoga-Rovers

& Associates (CRA). The CRA report included recommendations in Section 8. Reference 2 addressed the installation of the new wells and their locations, but did not specifically compare actions taken to each of the recommendations.

Attachment 5 provides a description of actions implemented to address each recommendation.

This letter also provides the analytical reports from all groundwater monitoring samples that were not submitted in Reference

4. The onsite laboratory reports are provided in Attachment
3. Attachment 3 is organized by well number and includes offsite analysis result for the specific well. Attachment 4 contains the full offsite laboratory reports. The new analytical data in this submittal supports the conclusion in Reference 2.Analytical results to date reveal no elevated detection of plant radionuclides in bedrock groundwater.
