Dave Gasperson, 404-997-4417 NRC Names New Resident Inspector at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Shamica Billups as the new resident inspector at the Browns Ferry nuclear power plant. The plant, operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority, is located Athens, Alabama.

Billups joined the NRC in May 2023 as a project engineer through the Resident Inspector Development Program in the Region II office in Atlanta.

Before joining the NRC, she was a nuclear engineer for more than a decade at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia. Billups earned a bachelor's degree in electronics engineering from Norfolk State University.

I am confident that Shamica will be an invaluable asset to the resident inspector office at Browns Ferry, said NRC Region II Administrator Laura Dudes. She brings a wealth of experience from her time at the naval shipyard and will continue to uphold the NRC s high standards for nuclear safety at the plant.

Billups joins Senior Resident Inspector Tim Steadham and Resident Inspector Kevin Pfeil at Browns Ferry. Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public.
