TEXAS ENGINEERING EXPERIMENT STATION/TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY SYSTEM - DETERMINATION OF ACCEPTABILITY AND SUFFICIENCY FOR DOCKETING AND OPPORTUNITY FOR A HEARING REGARDING THE APPLICATION FOR RENEWAL OF FACILITY LICENSE NO. R-83 FOR THE NUCLEAR SCIENCE CENTER REACTOR (TAC NO. ME1584)

Dear Dr. Hall:

By letter dated February 27, 2003, as supplemented by letters dated March 30, 2005, and July 22, 2009, the Texas Engineering Experiment Station/Texas A&M University System (TEES) submitted an application to the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for renewal of Facility Operating License No. R-83 for the Nuclear Science Center (NSC) Reactor.

Based on initial review of the application, the NRC staff determined that TEES submitted sufficient information such that the application is acceptable for docketing in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Sections 50.33 and 50.34. However, the NRC staffs determination does not preclude requests for additional information as the review proceeds.

Enclosed is a copy of the Notice of Acceptance for Docketing and Opportunity for Hearing on the Application Regarding Renewal for an Additional 20-year Period for the NSC reactor and Order Imposing Procedures for Access to Safeguards Information and Sensitive Unclassified Non-Safeguards Information being sent to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.

The notice provides the opportunity to request a hearing and to file a petition for leave to intervene.

Dr. K. Hall If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Christian Cowdrey at 301-415-2758 or via email at Christian.Cowdrey@nrc.gov.
