| | ==Dear Mr. Pitesa:== |
| | |
| | On behalf of the U.S Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), I am acknowledging the receipt of the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) letter dated September 20, 2018 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML18268A114) regarding the submittal of Revision 2 of the NEI Open Phase Conditions Initiative. The letter provides a description of the changes made to the schedule for implementation of the Open Phase Conditions Initiative and an explanation for the changes. The letter further indicates that the industrys chief nuclear officers have voted to approve this revision to the NEI Open Phase Initiative and that the initiative is a formal commitment by NEI member companies that operate nuclear power plants to follow a specific policy or plan of action. The NRC appreciates the industrys attention and commitment to support the resolution of the open phase issue described in the NRC Bulletin 2012-01, Design Vulnerability in Electric Power System. The information provided, as well as the discussion from the October 17, 2018, public meeting, and subsequent letter dated November 19, 2018, (ADAMS Accession No. ML18324A777) will be useful in resolving the issue and closing the bulletin in a timely fashion. I would encourage that any changes or updates to industry plans be communicated to the NRC as soon as possible so that we may factor them into our decision making process. |
