SUBJECT:

NORTH ANNA POWER STATION, UNIT NO 2, AUDIT REPORT OF CORRECTIVE ACTIONS FOR GENERIC LETTER 2004-02 (TAC NO. MC4697)

Dear Mr. Christian:

The U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) audited Virginia Electric and Power Company's (the licensee's) North Anna Power Station, Unit No. 2 corrective actions for Generic Letter (GL) 2004-02, "Potential Impact of Debris Blockage on Emergency Recirculation During Design Basis Accidents at Pressurized-Water Reactors [PWRs]," during July, 2007. The purpose of the audit was to verify that the implementation of Generic Safety Issue (GSI) 191, "Assessment of Debris Accumulation on PWR Sump Performance" sump strainer and related modifications bring North Anna 2 and similar plants into full compliance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Section 50.46, "Acceptance Criteria for Emergency Core Cooling Systems for Light-Water Nuclear Power Reactors," and related requirements, and to draw conclusions as to the probable overall effectiveness of GL 2004-02 corrective actions for the U. S. operating PWRs.

The subject audit report is enclosed to the licensee and was made public on November 19, 2007, and can be accessed via NRC Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML072740400. Please note that this audit report does not reach a conclusion regarding overall adequacy of the licensee's GL 2004-02 corrective actions.

Sincerely,

/RA/ Siva P. Lingam, Project Manager Plant Licensing Branch II-1 Division of Operating Reactor Licensing Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
