Thislimitation requiresoperating thepumpsunderlowflowconditions andresultsinincreased levelsofpumpvibration duringthetest.Operating thepumpsinthismannerisundesirable becauseitcanresultinpumpvibration exceeding theASMEcodelimitation, andcanpotentially contribute tolongtermdegradation ofthecontainment spraypumps.Tocorrectthiscondition, aplantmodification isbeingimplemented toprovideincreased flowcapability forthecontainment spraypumpswhentheyareoperatedfortestinginrecirculation.

Themodification permitsthepumpstobetestedatdesignflowratesandisintendedtoeliminate theundesirable pumpvibration associated withpumptestingatreducedflow.Thismodification isexpectedtoprecludeestablishing thecurrentT/Srequiredtestcondition forthecontainment spraypump'sdischarge pressureofgreaterthanorequalto255psigwithoutrequiring substantial throttling ofthepumpsfiow.Throttling thepumpstoachievethespecified discharge pressurenegatesthebenefitofthemodification thatprovidesdesignflowratetestcapability.
