==Dear Sir or Madam:==

The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) Nuclear Strategic Issues Advisory Committee (NSIAC) recently approved an Industry Initiative to maintain and perform timely updates to site specific Severe Accident Management Guidelines (SAMGs)(Reference 1). This letter established commitments related to SAMGs for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS). The guidelines are to be used by emergency response personnel during accident conditions that progress beyond the mitigation capabilities described in Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs). SAMG strategies are intended to arrest the progression of fuel damage, maintain the capability of the containment as long as possible, and to minimize radiological releases.
In Reference 2, GGNS documented commitments to update the site to the BWROG generic .
SAMGs, revision 3, by June 30, 2017. Further, GGNS made a commitment to update to future revisions of the SAMGs within 2 refueling outages or 3 year, whichever is greater. During the review of the Plant Specific Technical Guidelines (PSTGs), which provide guidance on how to meet the intent of the BWROG/Eps/SAPs, it was discovered that the revision would require significantly more expertise than was available to GGNS. A request was made to contract Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to assist with the revision. Additional time is needed to complete the task and Entergy, respectfully, requests an extension to December 28,2017 to implement revision 3 to the GGNS SAMGs.
This letter contains no new Regulatory Commitments.
