l Washington, D. C. 20555 Attention: Mr. R. A. Clark, Chief Operating Reactors Branch 3 Gentlemen:

DOCKET NO. 50-266 LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 1 This is to provide further information regarding steam generator repairs for Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Unit 1, as described in our letter of May 27, 1982. Enclosed with this letter is a " Description of Steam Generator Repair, Point Beach Nuclear Plant Unit 1" for your review. This document describes in more detail the repair program which will be implemented to restore the performance and reliability of the steam generators in Unit 1.

Mr. Clark's letter dated July 6, 1982 presented the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's determination that the steam generator repairs described in our May 27 letter would require prior approval by the NRC. He stated that the May 27 letter would be treated as an application for a DPR-24 Facility Operating License amendment to provide this approval and requested we submit the associated fees for processing this application. Based on this determination, we have reviewed the requirements of 10 CFR /

Section 170.22, " Schedule of Fees for Facility License Amendments", f 00f and have determined that this license amendment application should be classified as a Class III amendment. This determination is based on the facts that a single issue is involved, steam generatorgf /gfg repair, and that acceptability of this issue has been previously jfY000.ob identified by the NRC in other dockets. The NRC safety evaluation in these other dockets concluded that the steam generator repair issue did not involve a significant hazards consideration.

Accordingly, we have enclosed herewith a check ir. the amount of

$4,000 as payment for the Class III approval fee.
