• Transportation Certification Branch Approval Record Model No. AI 500 SU Package Docket No. 71-9006 By letter dated August 12, 1985, as supplemented March 31, 1986, Tech / Ops RPD, Inc. requested an amendment to Certificate of Compliance No. 9006 for modification of the lock box. Except for the lock box, all other aspects of the package are consistent with the original design.

To demonstrate adequacy of the nodified (larger) lock box with the requirements of Part 71, the applicant conducted an additional series of 30-foot drop and puncture tests of the package. For the 30-foot drop test, the package impacted on the cover plate over the lock box nechanism.

Following the 30-foot drop test, the package was dropped three times onto the puncture pin per 10 CFR Part 71. Two of the puncture tests were conducted without the protection of the cover plate and the lock box impacted directly on the puncture pin. A shielding test conducted by the applicant indicated that the combination of 30-foot drop and puncture tests did not reduce the shielding efficiency of the package.

Based on our review of the tests and results, we have concluded that the lock box modification to the Model No. AI 500 SU package design meets '

the requirements of 10 CFR Part 71.
