Dear Mr. Maier,

As you know, the Arizona Corporation Commission recently scheduled a Special Open Meeting with the following agenda item:

Discussion with Arizona Public Service Company concerning safety procedures and precautions related to the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has also been invited to participate in this discussion. Note: This item will be heard by the Commission at 1:00 pm Tuesday, March 29, 2011, and will not involve a vote by the Commission.

Please allow this letter to satisfy your request for a written invitation for the National Regulatory Commission (NRC) to attend.

Ive attached letters from Commissioner Stump and Commissioner Newman in that regard to give you a flavor of some of their questions.

Given NRCs organizational mandate and expertise in nuclear safety, we would appreciate the attendance of NRC representatives at our meeting. In light of the significant nationwide interest regarding this issue and the constraints on NRCs resources, we would welcome NRCs participation via telephone if that would make attendance easier for you.

Thank you for your consideration of this request.
