Dear Mr. Nazar:
On February 28, 2014, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) completed an inspection at your St. Lucie Nuclear Plant using Temporary Instruction 2515/186, Inspection of Procedures and Processes for Responding to Potential Aircraft Threats. On February 28, 2014, the NRC inspector discussed the results of this inspection with Mr. Joe Jensen and other members of your staff. The inspector documented the results of this inspection in the enclosed inspection report.
The objective of this inspection was to assess the implementation procedures and processes of St. Lucie Nuclear Plant that are required by Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR),
Part 50.54(hh)(1), which provides the requirements for responding to a potential aircraft threat.
The results from this inspection, along with the results from this inspection performed at other operating commercial nuclear plants in the United States, will be used to evaluate the U.S.
nuclear industrys readiness to safely respond to similar events. These results will also help the NRC to determine if additional regulatory actions are warranted.
