Missing Lock Welds on 150 & 300 Class Anchor / Darling Check Valves

Dear Mr. Keppler:

In Illinois Power Company's letter to Mr. Frank Jablonski, NRC Region III, (Ref. U-10024, 1606-L, dated January 17, 1983), Illinois Power agreed to notify Region III of those 10CFR Part 21 defects that affect Clinton Power Station and that were previously reported to the Commission by vendors or contractors. In accordance with that agreement, the following information is submitted:

Anchor / Darling Valve Company has notified the Clinton Power Station of a condition concerning Anchor / Darling check valves that may have missing lock welds on the hinge pin setscrews, at the hinge support / hinge support capscrew interface and at the hinge support / bonnet interface.

Illinois Power is conducting an evaluation of the reported defect and its impact on the Clinton Power Station and will assure that appropriate corrective action is taken.
