By letter dated June 7, 2021 (Reference 1), Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC (Duke Energy) submitted a subsequent license renewal (SLR) application for Oconee Nuclear Station (ONS), Units 1, 2, and 3 to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Commission Orders CLI-22-02 (Reference 2) and CLI-22-03 (Reference 3) determined that additional analyses are needed to support environmental reviews in subsequent license renewal proceedings and provided applicants the option of supplementing their Environmental Report (ER) and proceeding in a site-specific manner. Hence, by a November 7, 2022, letter (Reference 4), Duke Energy submitted a Category 1 site-specific environmental review of ONS Units 1, 2 and 3 operations in support of the SLR application for ONS Units 1, 2, and 3.

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission October 12, 2023 Page 2 In response to the November 7, 2022, Category 1 site-specific environmental review submittal, NRC conducted a regulatory audit remotely on April 26 - 28, 2023. In Reference 5, NRC stated many of the answers will need to be submitted as a (1) supplement to the application, (2) response to requests for additional information (RAI), or (3) response to requests for confirmation of information (RCI). Duke Energys responses were provided by letter dated June 20, 2023 (Reference 6).

As additional information provided by Reference 6, Duke Energy confirms the following:

Dewatering water from the standby shutdown facility (SSF) is discharged to the yard drainage system, which then discharges to chemical treatment pond CTP-3.

Groundwater withdrawn from recovery well RW-1 is discharged through dedicated piping to CTP-3.

Should you have any questions regarding this submittal, please contact Arun Kapur by email at arun.kapur@duke-energy.com.

I declare under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct. Executed on October 12, 2023.

Sincerely, Steven M. Snider Site Vice President Oconee Nuclear Station
