NPF-35 AND NPF-52

SUBJECT:

SUBMITTAL OF INFORMATION RELATED TO PRESSURIZER SURGE AND SPRAY NOZZLE THERMAL SLEEVES ATTACHMENT WELDS FOR LICENSE RENEWAL The Catawba Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2 (CNS) Updated Final Safety Analysis Report (UFSAR) Section 18.2.1.1 contains the original commitment to submit to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) the results of the susceptibility ranking for the pressurizer surge and spray nozzle thermal sleeves attachment welds following issuance of renewed operating licenses for CNS and prior to December 6, 2024 (the end of the initial license of CNS Unit 1).

As currently described in the UFSAR, the original Alloy 600 Aging Management Review (AMR) was completed with the issuance of the renewed operating licenses. The purpose of the Alloy 600 AMR was to ensure that nickel-based alloy locations would be adequately inspected. Since that time, the program description has been revised to reflect the requirements imposed and commitments made subsequent to the issuance of the renewed operating licenses. The intent of the original Alloy 600 AMR is now met by the more comprehensive Alloy 600 Aging Management Program (AMP). The following are the results of the susceptibility ranking for the pressurizer surge and spray nozzle thermal sleeves attachment welds:

The pressurizer surge nozzle thermal sleeves attachment welds were ranked the same as the pressurizer surge nozzle to safe end welds.

The pressurizer spray nozzle thermal sleeves attachment welds were not fabricated from Alloy 82/182 material and were thus removed from the susceptibility ranking.
