Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC to Hold Virtual Meeting to Discuss 2020 Performance of Clinton and LaSalle Nuclear Power Plants Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2020 safety performance of the Clinton and LaSalle nuclear power stations during a virtual meeting to be held June 30.

Clinton and LaSalle stations are located in Illinois and operated by Exelon Generation Co.,

LLC.

The virtual meeting will begin at 5 p.m. Central time. Participants will be able to join the meeting via Teams; additional details on participation and system requirements is available in the meeting notice.

NRC staff responsible for plant inspection and oversight will participate in the meeting, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site.

Clinton operated safely in 2020. At the end of the year, as a result of one greater than green finding, the NRC determined that the plants performance was within the Regulatory Response Column, the second highest performance column of the NRCs Reactor Oversight Process Action Matrix. Therefore, in addition to baseline inspections, the NRC has completed a supplemental inspection to review the plants actions to correct the issue and prevent recurrence. Inspection results will be documented in a publicly available report.

LaSalle operated safely in 2020. At the end of the year, all inspection findings and performance indicators were of very low safety significance, or green. As a result, the plant remains under the NRCs normal level of oversight, which entails thousands of hours of inspection each year.

The NRC Reactor Oversight Process uses color-coded inspection findings and indicators to measure plant performance. The colors start at green and increase to white, yellow or red, commensurate with the safety significance of the issues involved. Inspection findings or performance indicators with more than very low safety significance trigger increased NRC oversight.

Inspections at Clinton and LaSalle are performed by two NRC resident inspectors and specialist inspectors from the Region III Office in Lisle, Illinois.

Annual assessment letters for Clinton and LaSalle are available on the NRC website. Current performance information for Clinton and LaSalle Unit 1 and LaSalle Unit 2 is also available and updated quarterly.
