Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC to Discuss LaSalle Nuclear Power Plant 2017 Performance Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will be available to discuss the 2017 safety performance of the LaSalle nuclear power station, operated by Exelon Generation Co., during the Health, Fitness &

Lifestyle Fair on May 17, in Ottawa, Ill.

The health fair will be held 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at Knights of Columbus Hall, 401 W. Main St. On hand to discuss the plants performance and the NRCs oversight of the facility will be agency employees responsible for inspections of the plant, including the resident inspectors based at the site on a full-time basis.

Throughout the fair, the NRC will engage with members of the community, providing an opportunity for discussions with citizens who live near the plant about LaSalles performance and the NRCs nuclear safety oversight.

LaSalle operated safely during 2017. At the end of the year, all inspection findings and performance indicators were green or low safety significance. As a result, the plant remains under the NRCs normal level of oversight, which entails thousands of hours of inspection each year.

The NRC Reactor Oversight Process uses color-coded inspection findings and indicators to measure plant performance. The colors start at green and increase to white, yellow or red, commensurate with the safety significance of the issues involved. Inspection findings or performance indicators with more than very low safety significance trigger increased NRC oversight. Inspections are performed by two NRC resident inspectors and specialist inspectors from the agencys Region III office in Lisle, Ill.

The annual assessment letter, as well as the notice for the meeting, are available on the NRC website. Current performance information for LaSalle Unit 1 and Unit 2 is also available.
