Diane Screnci, 610-337-5330 Neil Sheehan, 610-337-5331 NRC to Hold Open House to Discuss 2017 Performance of Limerick Nuclear Power Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2017 safety performance of the Limerick nuclear power plant, operated by Exelon Nuclear, during an open house on May 16, in Limerick, Pa.

The meeting at the temporary Limerick Township Building, 155 South Limerick Road, will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. NRC agency employees responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to discuss the companys performance.

Both Limerick units operated safely during 2017. At the end of the year, all inspection findings and performance indicators were of very low safety significance. As a result, Units 1 and 2 remain under the NRCs normal level of oversight, which entails thousands of hours of inspection each year.

The NRC Reactor Oversight Process uses color-coded inspection findings and indicators to measure plant performance. The colors start at green and increase to white, yellow or red, commensurate with the safety significance of the issues involved. Inspection findings or performance indicators with more than very low safety significance trigger increased NRC oversight.

Inspections are performed by two resident inspectors and specialist inspectors from the Region I Office in King of Prussia, Pa.

The annual assessment letter, as well as the meeting notice, are available on the NRC website.

Information on current performance for Unit 1 and Unit 2 is also available.
