No: I-14-006 February 11, 2014 CONTACT: Diane Screnci 610-337-5330 Neil Sheehan 610-337-5331 NRC Assigns New Resident Inspector To Limerick Generating Station Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in King of Prussia, Pa., have selected Richard Montgomery as the new resident inspector at the Limerick nuclear power plant. He joins Senior Resident Inspector Gene DiPaolo at the two-unit site in Limerick, Pa.
Montgomery joined the NRC in 2009 after earning a bachelors degree in marine engineering from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He then completed the NRCs Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program, a two-year training program that provides specialized training in nuclear safety and a broad perspective of NRC regulatory activities. Montgomery also completed a rigorous NRC inspector qualification program. Most recently, Montgomery became a fully qualified physical security inspector in the Region I Division of Reactor Safety. In that position, he conducted inspections of security programs at the nuclear power plants in the northeastern United States.
Richard Montgomery has the training and commitment to safety that will help the NRC carry out its mission of protecting people and the environment, and he will help ensure the safe operations of the Limerick units, said NRC Region I Administrator Bill Dean.
Each U.S. commercial nuclear plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.
The Limerick resident inspectors can be reached at 610-327-1344.
