on July 24 to Discuss Nuclear Safety-Related Topics A subcommittee of a Nuclear Regulatory Commission advisory panel will be briefed by NRC Region I Office staff on a variety of topics on July 24. The meeting, which will be open to the public, will take place at the Region I Office, located at 2100 Renaissance Blvd. in King of Prussia, Pa.

The meeting will involve the Plant Operations and Fire Protection Subcommittee of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS). It will begin at 8:30 a.m. and is scheduled to run through 11:30 a.m. Among the topics to be covered will be flooding and seismic hazard inspections performed by Region I staff; fire-protection program issues at Region I plants; and the Region I staff response to Hurricane Sandy and other recent major weather-related events. The agenda for the meeting has been posted on the ACRS website.

The ACRS is an independent body of experts that performs reviews of, and advises the NRC on a wide range of nuclear safety matters. Areas of expertise possessed by members of the ACRS include nuclear, mechanical, civil and electrical engineering; risk assessment; chemistry; materials science and metallurgy; and thermal hydraulics and heat transfer. Directions to the NRC Region I Office are also available online. Attendees should arrive by 8:15 a.m. to allow processing through security.
