have selected Christopher Newport as the new senior resident inspector at the Seabrook nuclear power plant in Seabrook, N.H.

Newport joined the NRC in 2008 as a project engineer in the Region I office and was the resident inspector at Seabrook Station. Most recently, he was the senior resident inspector at the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Prior to joining the agency, he served in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear submarine officer. He holds a bachelors degree in control systems engineering from the United States Naval Academy and a masters degree in engineering management from Catholic University.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two resident inspectors. Newport and Resident Inspector Travis Daun serve as the agencys eyes and ears at Seabrook, conducting inspections, monitoring significant work projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public.
