The NRC granted the company a license in August 2003 to operate an irradiator at its cold storage facility.
In April of this year, CFC Logistics sent a letter to the NRC informing the agency of its decision to cease activities and decommission the irradiator. In May, the cobalt-60 sealed radioactive sources were removed from the irradiator and shipped to MDS Nordion in Canada. An NRC inspector performed an inspection on May 17, 18 and June 10th at the companys facilities. In addition to reviewing the circumstances of the removal and shipment of the sources, the inspector performed radiation surveys to confirm there was no residual radiation at the site.
In a letter dated June 22, the NRC terminated the license and released the facility for unrestricted use.
