NRC SEEKS NOMINATIONS FOR ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON THE MEDICAL USES OF ISOTOPES The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is inviting nominations of qualified individuals to serve two-year terms as members of the Commission's Advisory Committee on the Medical Uses of Isotopes.

The committee advises the NRC on policy and technical issues that arise in regulating the medical use of radioactive byproduct material for diagnosis and therapy. It also provides guidance and comments on changes in NRC regulations and guides on medical uses; evaluates certain non-routine uses of radioactive byproduct material for medical uses; and provides technical assistance in specific licensing, inspection and enforcement cases.

The present members of the committee are physician specialists in therapeutic radiology and nuclear medicine (with backgrounds in radiology, internal medicine and nuclear cardiology); a nuclear medicine technologist; a radiopharmacist; specialists in medical physics; a patient's rights and care advocate; an individual with experience in medical regulation as conducted by individual states; and a representative from the Food and Drug Administration.

The Commission is seeking additional members qualified in the following areas: medical research, with expertise in the medical use of monoclonal antibodies; hospital administration or management; radiation oncology with experience in teletherapy, brachytherapy and/or stereotactic radiotherapy; radiopharmacy; nuclear cardiology; and medical physics.

Nominees must be U.S. citizens and be able to devote approximately 80 hours9.259259e-4 days <br />0.0222 hours <br />1.322751e-4 weeks <br />3.044e-5 months <br /> per year to committee business. Members are compensated and reimbursed for travel (including per diem in lieu of subsistence), secretarial and correspondence expenses.
