This letter provides notification that Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) intends to submit a Subsequent License Renewal Application (SLRA) for the Renewed Facility Operating Licenses at Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant (Plant Farley) Units 1 and 2, located in Columbia, Alabama. This notice is being provided pursuant to NRC Regulatory Information Summary (RIS) 2009-06, Revision 1, Importance of Giving NRC Advance Notice of Intent to Pursue License Renewal, dated February 26, 2024.

The first Renewed Facility Operating Licenses for Plant Farley Unit 1 (NPF-2) and Unit 2 (NPF-8) were issued on May 12, 2005. The Farley Unit 1 Renewed Facility Operating License will expire at midnight on June 25, 2037, and the Farley Unit 2 Renewed Facility Operating License will expire at midnight on March 31, 2041. SNC intends to submit an SLRA for the Renewed Facility Operating Licenses for Plant Farley Units 1 and 2 in accordance with 10 CFR Part 54, Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants, in the fourth quarter of 2026.

As discussed in RIS 2009-06, Revision 1, SNC will keep the NRC informed of any changes to the anticipated schedule for filing the SLRA and facilitate the NRCs efforts to plan and coordinate license renewal applications.
