As a follow up of todays meeting, in terms of a response to the RSIs, the staff explained that a narrative responding to the questions may be an approach to supplement the application, given that all answers are acceptable. As part of your responses to the staffs questions provided in the RSI letter, based on todays discussion, provide the following information:
- 1. Provide and explain the basis for all the assumptions (e.g., temperatures)
- 2. Explain impacts of the thermal load and materials of construction of the batteries on the performance of the package under HAC and NCT.
- 3. Provide manufacturers specifications for the batteries, including thermal load, dimensions, materials of construction, voltage, etc.
- 4. Explain if a runway reaction due to battery failure or overheating is possible; are there any gases generated during NCT or HAC that can ignite?
- 5. Describe the characteristics of the special source (material of construction, melting temperature, etc.)
- 6. Explain the meaning of ignition of vented gases in section 2.7.4.
Per discussion with the staff, even though a narrative may be a way to respond to the RSI and supplement the application, the staff may have additional questions or request additional analyses after performing a more detailed technical review of the application.
